THE ULTIMATE CITIZEN RECORDMASTER COLLECTORS GUIDE
Citizen recordmaster Rmos 53002-TA
The model RMOS 53002-TA was released around February 1969, in fact all examples I have seen so far had this one month of production. The dial is flat black and the text is crisp white. Citizen recordmaster is printed near the top and Chronograph 21j is printed near the bottom. There is tachymeter scale around the perimeter. The scale starts at 500 and it typically can be used to measure speeds and distances. Date window is at three. The hands are baton style with lume up the middle. The hour markers are polished with small lume strips up the centre and red printed markers. The crystal is acrylic and the crown is marked C. |
The case is one of the larger recordmaster designs. No other variant of recordmaster uses this case it measures 38mm exc crown and 43mm lug to lug. Lug width is 18mm. Thickness varies from 10mm to 12mm as the case is asymmetric. The case back should look like the image shown here. The first 3 numbers of the serial relate do the manufacture date. This one is from February 1969. The bracelet is made up of large flat brushed links of varying sizes with holes cut from each one. It is a similar style to the bracelet found on the rallycustom recordmasters however I am yet to find any other evidence to help determine if this is in fact the correct original bracelet for this variant of recordmaster. |
The movement is the second iteration of Citizen's only hand winding chronograph movement, Citizen calibre 5701. It has 21 jewels and beats at a slow 18,000bph. Elapsed time can be measured for one minute. The user can start/stop and reset the chronograph as well as flyback (reset while running). The crown is pulled one stage to adjust the time. The date is not quick-set but is changed by advancing the hour hand past 12. The design is rather peculiar. From the bright red squares on the dial to the chunky looking wedge shaped case there is no other recordmaster quite like it. It does however sit fantastically well on the wrist and is without a doubt one of the coolest recordmasters going around. |
.Buying tips...
As with any of the one month production variants they should be considered in almost any condition as there won't be many opportunities to acquire one. This model should have the gold coloured inner part of the pusher as is the case with all the 5701 cal variants. The case and dial are unique to this model however the handset seems to be the same as the RMOS 53001-TA.
